You look in the mirror and realize the weight has crept back on somehow. You didn’t intend for this to happen but now that it has, it’s time to get serious. In this article I’ll share with you my take on weight loss program’s 3 deadly sins.

Sin #1: Not counting caloriesIf you want to successfully lose weight you need to count calories. It’s not enjoyable and having to weigh your food can be a chore. But we all logically know that by reducing your calorie intake is what will help you lose weight. You will be overeating before you know it if you aren’t aware of how many calories you are eating, which will defeat the purpose of the weight loss program all together.

I will admit that I’m horrible at sticking with a plan like this so I’ll share with you exactly what I did. I don’t eat horribly to begin with but what I did do is cut back on my portion sizes and became more aware of what I was eating. My goal was to drop 30 pounds in six months and I actually ended up dropping 28 just shy of my goal date. I’ve kept it off ever since and continue to watch what I eat every single day.

Sin #2: Not incorporating exerciseThe way you lose weight in the first place is by burning the calories you have taken in for the day. Proof in point is the television show “The Biggest Loser”. Sure, that is a contest to see who can lose the most in the shortest period of time but the message is clear. If you want to lose weight you need to incorporate exercise into your life. Even if you just start by walking 30 minutes a day, you are on the right road. It all starts by getting off the couch.

Sin #3: Not allowing a rewardA reward can really be anything. Some people prefer a shopping spree while others enjoy a much needed massage. Then you have those that would rather eat something they aren’t supposed to and that’s a good enough reward for them. The point is, don’t deprive yourself on any weight loss program. But do give yourself a good couple of months to really shed some pounds before you go and eat something you shouldn’t. The lesson here is that by depriving yourself of what you love and enjoy, that’s the quickest way of falling off the wagon.

You can’t go back to your old eating habits but by eating right during the week and then having something you shouldn’t on a weekend is the best way to be able to stay on a strict plan. You may even find that you don’t enjoy the foods you use to as much anymore because you know how bad they are for you. You can just make healthier choices when you do go out.

I’ve been where you are and I’ve lost the weight more than once. So those are my takes on weight loss program’s 3 deadly sins. Stick with what works for you and don’t beat yourself up if you slip every once in awhile. Just remember that you are doing this not only to lose that weight but to stay healthy overall.

“The Biggest Loser” Tv Show is the first show to come along that can actually help dieters lose weight. In the past television was notorious for leaving dieters depressed and sabotaging their efforts. First there are the food commercials featuring the latest Wendy’s triple or quadruple burger (they seem to get bigger every year) and who doesn’t salivate at the sight of McDonald’s hot, golden fries. So much for will power. Advertising agencies are paid millions to design these little brain teasers, that subconsciously send you straight to the nearest drive thru window!

When dieters aren’t watching commercials, Tv shows filled with beautiful, thin people saturate the airwaves. In Hollywood, if an A-list actress shows the slightest hint of cellulite, she’s likely to end up on the cover of the Enquirer! If the media publicly ridicules stars for an extra 5-10 pounds, what message does that send to people who are REALLY overweight? Not a good one! Television is also the culprit for causing millions to become lethargic couch potatoes. Ever sit down to watch one television program? It’s almost impossible! Psychophysiologists have found that after 30 seconds of watching tv the human brain produces alpha waves. These brain waves are associated with hypnotic trance like states. If you end up watching 4 hours of television because you can’t drag yourself away, you are right…literally.

The Biggest Loser Tv Show, now gives dieters at least one good reason to spend time in front of the tube. The show is required viewing for some diet programs. One weight loss plan tells their dieters “Treat your diet and exercise routine as if you were on a television show. You have all these people watching you progress and critiquing you along the way. You do not want to disappoint!” They rationalize that while some dieters just need to change some bad habits, most dieters need to change everything. Some diet experts say moderation is not doable for most, so an “all or nothing” approach is best. Take a bag of Potato Chips for example. You’ll have some people who can eat a couple of chips and walk away, while others have to eat the entire bag. For those types it is far better just to avoid the chips altogether. The Biggest Loser Tv Show is a great example of this “all or nothing” concept.

The Biggest Loser Tv Show gives dieters a hard look at what weight loss really involves. To see others go through such an exhausting process and persevere not only gives them motivation; it prepares Dieters mentally on what to expect. Often times people give up on their weight loss program because they believe it’s too hard for them. When Dieters look at The Biggest Loser Tv Show, they see the truth. Weight Loss is hard for everybody! The theme of the show is if you stay focused, work hard and push through all obstacles, you can achieve the body of your dreams. The winner of the Biggest Loser Tv Show, reinforces the theme with their physical transformation.

Question by How: Could I do P90x and Turbo Fire Programs simultaneously?
Looking to lose about 60 pounds and ready to start Turbo Fire (someone in my house owns P90x already–It’s not like I start things and don’t finish them)

Since Turbo Fire is “intense cardio conditioning” I wanted to do some weights…so maybe the 30 day shred would be better on top of Turbo Fire? Or P90x?

Any reccomendations would be great! I’m willing to dedicate 2 ish hours a day if needed.

Answer by Casey
I don’t know how used to exercise you are, but P90X is really hard on it’s own. I can do 2, maybe 3 days of it then I need a day or 2 off because I get so sore. I’d start one or the other and see how you’re feeling. Don’t take on too much at first or you’ll burn yourself out, or cause serious injury. P90X includes cardio AND weights, so it’s a total body workout. I’m not familiar with Turbo Fire, so maybe someone else can comment on that one.
